This is a write up by Oaxaca Charlie,
A commerical roaster located in British Columbia Canada
It was posted on Sweet Marias mail list on 9/5/03

I got one of Ron Kyle's roasting drums for gas grills. Just a
little one, 8" in diameter and 12" long. All stainless
steel-perforated with little holes, with solid end plates and
big stirring vanes inside. I had him put the holes for a
roticery connection in the endplates, in case I want to use it
in a gas grill instead of just on the roller system I have in my
    brick oven.
First roast-I'd finished roasting my orders for the day, and the
    oven was down to
max. temp of 450 degrees, so I just put

1st crack hit at 15:50 minutes.. 50 seconds of a pause & beans went
into a slow start of a rolling second crack /......Time 19:30 (complete)
dumped 4 lbs (3&1/3 lbs Roasted) into a good 12+ seconds of a 2nd crack
(Rolling) and slammed the brakes on 2nd crack when the beans hit my cooling
fan.... let see if someone could do that with a roaster under $750.00.....Excellent+ Roaster you got there Shane!

I bought the 8 lb. drum from Shane about a year ago and since then I have easily put over 500 lbs through the beast! The drum is flawless! I had my learning curve of course, but after a handful of not perfect (yet very tasty) batches, I caught on. Now I never miss a beat. My roasts are flawlessly even across the whole drum. Shane probably wouldn't approve of this, but I cram 12 lb. into the 8 lb. drum, and 26 minutes later I have a perfectly even 10 lb. batch of Full City+. I also have a grill that could take the place of my furnace in a pinch;) When I do fairs/bazaars I punch 100 lbs through this beast without even a hiccup. AMAZING!!!!! I really can't say enough good about these drums. They are built like tanks and infused with a little piece of Shane's heart. Skip the cheap thin gauge junk on ebay. Once you buy one of Shane's drums you will never want anything else. It's worth the coin, plus it will outlive Armageddon;)

I also purchased the new "RK Model T" cooler and I love it! It looks good, runs like a champ, and, like the drums, is one solid piece of machinery!

What is really amazing is not just the drum... it's Shane! He made the process of transitioning into small batch commercial roasting easier for me. Not only does he stand unwaveringly behind his products, but he loves to help the novice overcome the learning curve. Thank you Shane... You Rock!

    One RK Convert,

    Justin

Is totally awesome!  I roasted 2 pounds of coffee this afternoon after receiving your drum.

The first 2 pounds turned out near perfect! You have definitely taken home roasting to a new level.

The quality of your drum was exceptional. I must say the quality was far above what I had expected.

I can now look forward to roasting at home. I had been dreading roasting, because I could only do 1/3 cup batches before with my air roaster. It took me about 8-10 batches to roast enough for the Mrs. and I for the week.

     Hi Ron,

I wish the forum had dates, so I could remember when I bought your  drum (#7 IS a lucky number).   Anyway, I'm still roasting away in Wyoming, and am still thrilled at
the roaster and results I get from it.
Bought a real espresso machine this summer, and maybe that is where the rubber hits the road, because I probably have the best espresso  and regular coffee in this whole state.
I hope you are selling lots of these things, I'd hate to think others  are missing out.

Thanks again for having such a great idea.
